Pickleballoween 2015 benefiting the Asheville Humane Society was held October 29 at Jackson Park in Hendersonville. The tournament was structured as a round robin by skill level with a blind draw determining partnerships. Originally scheduled for October 28, the tournament was postponed for one day due to heavy rains.
The postponement and sketchy weather impacted the participation level but not the enthusiasm of the players. Approximately 20 players split into 2 divisions and completed a morning round robin session. The winners of the upper division were Deb Harrison, a 5.0 player/instructor from The Villages in Florida and Bruce Birdsall of Crosswalk (photos below).
The winners of the lower division were Alice Weldon of Asheville and Rich Ferragina of Cummings Cove (photos below) in Hendersonville.
After a lunch of pizza, open play lasted for a couple of hours.
The tournament was successful in raising nearly $700 for the Asheville Humane Society. Kudos to Rick Ezrol for organizing the tournament.
