Land of the Sky 2018 BBQ in the Barn

We're Having a Party!

We know the primary activity at a pickleball tournament is, ummm, the pickleball. We aren't dummies...despite the opinions of some (especially those who think directing a tournament is a little nuts). But who doesn't like to party? No one! Including us.

Venue
The Barn at Tall Oaks Farm

So we found a great venue that is less than 10 minutes from the tournament site.  It epitomizes the North Carolina Mountains. It is a barn.

But it isn't an ordinary barn. This barn was built for the purpose of having events ranging from square dances to weddings. That means we get the best of both worlds - the rustic feel of the mountains and the comfort of air conditioning with a sound system.

While just outside the town of Hendersonville, NC, the barn sits on an actual farmstead with horses and mules.

Food
Catered BBQ Dinner

No party exists without food. Seriously. A party without food might as well be a meeting with the Internal Revenue Service. We will have food - lots of delicious NC Mountain food. The menu will include:

  • Smoked Pork BBQ
  • Smoked Chicken
  • Coleslaw
  • Red Potatoes
  • Baked Beans
  • White Corn
  • Rolls
  • Lemonade
  • Sweet Tea
  • Apple Cobbler

It don't get no better than that!  Sorry, my mountain lingo overtook me as I typed the menu, much of which I personally sampled...more than once.

Drinks
Beer, Wine, and Hard Cider
Cash Bar

Every southern BBQ dinner has to include sweet tea. We threw in lemonade for the caffeine-conscious among us. But let's be real. Pickleballers are always looking for more, right? And Asheville has the nickname "Beer City" for a reason. We will provide an opportunity for you to try some of the famous (and infamous) craft beers from the area. I'm pretty sure that Sierra Nevada will be included. It can't get any fresher than from their brewery just a few miles away.

But we aren't all about beer here. The area is becoming known for its wineries, too. Burntshirt Vineyards has won numerous awards and there is always the reliable Biltmore winery. Plenty of wine will be available for you grape aficionados to try.

But my favorite is the newest entry into the alcoholic world of the area - hard cider. Henderson County is one of the top apple producers around. Orchards were looking to find an outlet for apples and willing buyers were found in cideries. Bold Rock is probably the best known and is less than five miles from the Barn.
