Palmetto Doubles Invitational Pickleball Tournament

The fourth annual Palmetto Doubles Pickleball Tournament will be played Aug 13-Aug 15 in Aiken, SC. Several local players played this tournament last year and were sufficiently impressed to sign up again this year. It is an indoor tournament so there is no threat of rain-out or excessive heat. Some of the highlights from their website are shown below.

From the website:

To mark the 4h year of the Palmetto Doubles Invitational, we have made a number of significant changes, all focused on making the experience even better for our participants. We are excited to announce that PickleballTournaments.com will be our new tournament management partner. Our tournament has been extended to a third day to handle the increase in participation with improved scheduling on our 8 indoor courts. Your continued participation is important to us.

Skill Level /Age Combination will be used at the “Palmetto Pickleball Doubles Invitational” to be held at the Odell Weeks Recreation Center, located at 1700 Whiskey Road, in the beautiful City of Aiken, South Carolina.

Courts will be available on Friday, August 12 th to warm up for the event. Lunch will be served each day for players participating. To allow everyone to relax and get to know each other, we will have a Gathering with Dinner for players and guests.

- You will play against others in your skill level and in your age group.

- The Skill Level / Age Categories to be used are: 2.5 (19+, 50+, 60+, 70+) 3.0 (19+, 50+, 60+, 70+) 3.5 (19+, 50+, 60+ and 70+) 4.0 (19+, 50+, 60+, 70+) 4.5 (19+, 50+, 60+, 70+) 5.0 ( 19+ 50+)

- Tournament Directors reserve the right to combine age groups within the skill level; to ensure adequate playing time; or to adjust players into the correct skill level. We will not combine the skill levels. We may also close registration of an event, if the size of that event becomes too large to complete within a reasonable time frame.

Scoring

- Upper Bracket matches will be 2 out of 3 games to 11 points, win by two points. Back Draw matches will be one game to 15 points, win by 2 points.

- If Back Draw players defeat the Upper Bracket players in the finals, then an additional game to 15 points, win by 2 points, will be played to determine 1st place.

- In the event that there are fewer than 5 teams, a Round Robin may be played in which each team will play each other (one game to 21 points or 15 points, win by one point). At the end, the total points scored will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd, place. In the event of a tie head to head competition scores will be used.
